Kansas River

The Kansas River is frequently called the “Kaw” River. The Kansas River is among the most important streams in the state. The 10 counties that border the river have approximately 40 percent of the state’s population. Six of the state’s 10 largest cities are located along its banks. The Kansas River is very important to those citizens as a source or water, construction materials, and recreation. In what other ways can the river be utilized or preserved? Imagine rivers of the past and how important they have been to the origins of civilization and culture.

What is the river road that runs between Topeka and Lawrence?

  2. Bob says:

From Topeka follow 2nd St. going east until you get to Lecompton. After going through Lecompton turn left (go south) onto the highway and watch for a sign on the left of the highway (about 4 or 5 blocks) that says something like – scenic drive river road – that points to the east – take this road to Lawrence.
Very beautiful drive especially in the fall.
